Hello, decided to update my blog as a practise for one of my project, which involves writing a blog. So cool huh.. what module is this? Well it's called Distributed Autonomous Robotics System. (DARS) What??? What is this module? Sound so chim..
To be honest, I bidded for this module not knowing what it was about. At least now I have a clearer idea on it. I should... else there is a problem.. Hehe.. Basically it's an advance controls module. Readers, if you have no idea on what I am talking at this stage, good luck! Ok, so this module as its title suggests, involves robots. But it is not just any robotics module because to a certain extent, it involves the study of creating smarter robots and also how robots behave together in a society, utilising them to create an optimised output/objective.
Some of the things we learn include neural networks, fuzzy logic and this new concept of achieving optimization called Genetic Algorithm. Ok, better cut short. The lectures are quite interesting as they are things that I have never heard of before. We have 3 projects altogether for this module. First, programming Genetic Algorithm using Matlab to achieve multi-modal optimization. Next, a 20 page lab report where we played around with soccer robots!! How cool can it get!! These robots were programmed on fuzzy logic. So we had to tamper around with the inputs and outputs to achieve the best behaviour out of the robots.
Lastly, it is the robotics blog, where we are required to read up on robotics advancement in various industries like in the military, medical aspects. Overall, I would say that this module is an eye opener and is truly interesting. Expands my mind to things that I have not been keeping in touch with. However, one should bear in mind that this is a relatively new field where most of the advancements are still in the research stage. ie not much industry relevance. Ok, gotta go. Cya!!
