Whoever knows me and is reading this post, you must be wondering why am I writing this when I am inundated with numerous assignments. Well, I guess that since I am an English teacher, I should make sure that I have a slightly higher than average command of the English language. So this post is created to ensure that I do not become 'rusty' and that I retain my flair in writing. (if I ever had one)
So here goes. I am going to write a review about the 2010 version of the A-Team. Back in the 90's, I remember watching this TV show called the A-Team. It was a TV series back in the 80's, created in the mould of Knight Rider, Airwolf, etc.
It involved a bunch of Vietnam war veterans turned mercenaries, who were on the run from the government due to some unjust punishments meted out to them through their actions in Vietnam. It was a highly entertaining tv series as the characters were gregarious and had strong personalities. In each episode, they were almost always hired to help someone who was oppressed by someone shady and they would also construct something (similar to military engineers) to take down the evil guys.
In this movie, the setting has been changed slightly. This time, the heroes got themselves into trouble in Iraq where they were framed for disobeying command. (I think) The only person who could help them, the General was murdered by members of a shady security firm. So the A-Team landed up in jail for their acts. What was funny was that the heroes were treated like heroes in their respective separate jails.
As expected, they broke out of jail to redeem themselves and to hunt down the actual perpetrators. I was in awe as there were lots of explosives and gun scenes. Eventually the mastermind turned out to be a shady CIA field officer. With the CIA officer's black ops resources versus the A-Team, it is definitely a sight to behold when they battled it out at a cargo terminal.
Finally, the heroes triumphed against the villains. Unfortunately, the CIA officer was bailed out by the CIA under the pretext of national security while the A-Team was sentenced to jail once more for breaking out of it. The movie ends with them managing to escape from their lockup vehicle, and thus becoming renegades who have a strong sense of justice.
I liked this show very much as it was an action-filled movie with lots of cool scenes, good lines and the fact that it had the backing of a successful tv series behind it made it all the more appealing. Not to mention, at the final scene, the original actors of Face and Murdock, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz respectively, made cameo appearances.
To those who enjoy action movies with good lines, this show is for you. 4 out of 5 stars.
