It's amazing. Writing this blog on a Saturday night. Anyway, not sure what ramblings I can talk about. So hear goes....
Recently I signed up for taichi lessons at my community centre. Signed up for it as firstly, I wasn't really occupied during Friday nights, second, I was interested in both its health benefits and the fact that it is a form of martial art, and finally because I think that it is always good to learn something new.
Well, I won’t touch on the history of taichi as one can obtain it from various sources. So how has it being doing taichi for the past 2.5 months?
Generally, the class which I am attending has a good mix of elderly people and youth. The instructors are elderly uncles who don’t give a second thought about giving us a good scolding when we make mistakes. The class begins at 7.30pm at the Clementi CC with a 10-15min warm-up. We do stretching and exercises that loosen our joints.
After that the main instructor will teach us the steps of the Yang style taichi. Each week, he progressively adds on the movements. After a short break, a second instructor will guide us on. He is a funny old uncle who cracks jokes and makes measured comments on our performance.
Overall I would say it has been a joy learning taichi. The practitioners are nice people around the neighbourhood who have the desire to learn something new. To me, it is a form of exercise that is not strenuous on the body. I particularly enjoy the form and fluidity which it provides. Somehow it provides a calming effect on the mind. Wish that I can be a better practitioner over time. Will need to put in the effort to understand taichi better. Hopefully it can become a way of life for me.
Well, so here is my update for the week. Thanks for reading. Have a nice weekend ahead.
